Wedding photography in Weinheim — The Town of Two Castles on the Bergstraße

Weinheim on the Bergstraße is one of the most romantic small towns in the region. With its two castles — Windeck and Wachenburg — it overlooks the Rhine plain all the way to the Palatinate Forest. The historic old town with its narrow alleys and half-timbered houses, the expansive castle park with its unique exotic forest, and the mild temperatures of the Bergstraße make Weinheim a special place for wedding photography.

Windeck Castle Ruins — Dramatic Views

The Windeck Castle ruins are my personal favorite for wedding photos in Weinheim. The medieval ruin towers above the city and offers a panoramic view that reaches to the Odenwald and Palatinate on clear days. Especially at sunset, dramatic light emerges here — the warm tones of the sandstone merge with the golden hour to create images that hardly need editing. The climb takes about 15 minutes on foot; I recommend comfortable shoes for the walk and bridal shoes to change into at the top.

Castle Park and Exotic Forest

The Weinheim Castle Park with its adjacent exotic forest spans over 60 hectares as one of Germany's most extraordinary park complexes. Giant sequoias, cedars of Lebanon, and Japanese maples create backdrops reminiscent of a botanical garden. For wedding photos, I particularly love using the Blue Court with its symmetrical paths, the hidden clearings in the exotic forest, and the bridge over the castle pond. In autumn, when the exotic deciduous trees change color, the park is especially photogenic.

Old Town and Market Square

The Weinheim Old Town with its market square, Old Town Hall, and half-timbered houses offers authentic Bergstraße atmosphere. The Gerberbachviertel alleys are particularly charming — here you get images with character that stand out from typical castle backdrops. The Red Tower at the market square is another landmark that makes a striking background.

Registry Office and Celebration Venues

Weinheim's registry office in the historic Old Town Hall at the market square offers ceremonies in a dignified setting. Right after the ceremony, the entire old town is ready as a photo backdrop. For the wedding reception, Weinheim Castle itself is an exclusive option, alongside the Wachenburg with restaurant and panoramic terrace, the Nells Park Hotel right by the castle park, or rustic wineries in the surrounding area. From Bammental, I'm in Weinheim in just 20 minutes — travel is free.

Frequently asked questions about wedding photography in Weinheim

As a wedding photographer in Weinheim, I offer professional quality at only €50/hour. A complete wedding reportage therefore costs from €800 – significantly less than the usual €2,500–4,000.

Absolutely! From Bammental I travel along the entire Bergstrasse and throughout the Rhine-Neckar district. Heidelberg, Mannheim, Ludwigshafen, Ladenburg, Sinsheim and Weinheim, as well as all surrounding towns – with no travel costs.

The Wachenburg features a restaurant and a panoramic terrace and is suited for wedding celebrations with a view over the Rhine plain. The Windeck Castle ruins are not an event venue, but a fantastic spot for couple photos at sunset. I recommend combining both: celebration at Wachenburg, photo shoot at Windeck.

The Exotic Forest is unique in Germany — giant sequoias, cedars of Lebanon and Japanese maples create backdrops reminiscent of faraway lands. The light filters through the tall tree canopies, creating soft, even illumination perfect for portraits. Especially in autumn, when the exotic deciduous trees change colour, extraordinary images emerge here.

The golden hour — 1–2 hours before sunset — provides the most beautiful light at Wachenburg and on the vineyards. In the Exotic Forest, midday also works well, as the canopy filters the light softly and evenly.
