A wedding in Rome
Wedding in Rome — Destination Wedding
June 10, 2023
Rome. The city where every alley tells a story and every sunset feels like a promise. The perfect place to start a new chapter.
When this couple asked if I would accompany them to Rome, I didn’t have to think twice. A wedding in the Eternal City — every photographer’s dream. And reality exceeded all expectations.
My father is from Milan. I grew up with the sound of Italian, with the heat, the colours, the long evenings at the table. Italy is in my blood — and you can see it in the pictures. I don’t photograph in Rome as a tourist, but as someone who understands this city. The light, the times of day, the corners where tourists don’t gather.
The day began in a small guesthouse in Trastevere. The preparations, the light through the shutters, the first excitement. Then through the narrow lanes to the ceremony — past Vespas and orange trees, accompanied by the sounds of the city.
Trastevere is my favourite place in Rome for getting-ready photos. The ochre facades, the light falling through the shutters in the morning — natural warmth no filter can replicate. And in the evening, when the street lamps come on and the cobblestones glisten, every lane becomes a film set.
After the ceremony, we used the golden evening light for photos at the iconic locations: Castel Sant’Angelo in the background, Ponte Sant’Angelo as a stage, Piazza Navona at dusk. Every image became a small work of art — not because I am so good, but because Rome simply gives a photographer everything.
My tip for couples wanting to marry in Rome: plan an extra day. Not for the wedding — for yourselves. The day before or after, without time pressure, a few hours through the city. An espresso at the piazza, couple photos at sunset on the Pincio, then dinner in the old town. These relaxed shots often become the favourite pictures.
What made this wedding so special: the lightness. Far from home, free from expectations, the two could simply be themselves. Laughing, in love, free. And that’s exactly what these pictures show.
Destination weddings have their own rhythm. No "the bus is coming in ten minutes" stress. No great-aunt who needs to go home early. The guests are there because they truly want to be. And you can feel it. In the atmosphere, in the conversations, in the photos. As a photographer with Italian roots and an international background, I feel at home in these situations — whether Rome, Tuscany, or at the other end of the world.
